Stanadyne/Roosa Master DB and JDB Pumps These pumps will have a small rectangular or sometimes a triangle shaped plate on the side it will require a screw driver, or a 1/4 inch wrench to remove 2 screws. when these are removed you will see 2 disc inside of the pump, there should be a line visible in the rear of the window, rotate the engine by hand(do not use the starter) until you see a second line come into the window. (You may have to turn the engine over close to 2 times before the second mark becomes visible). when these 2 lines meet you are in time proceed to remove the pump.
CAV, ROTO DIESEL, DPA style pumps found on Ford, John Deere, Massey Ferguson English made International tractors and many Perkins Engines it is not necessary to look in the pump for an internal mark. these pumps usually have a hub drive and due to a dowel pin in the drive gear the hub will only attach one way. The MF 3&4 cylinder Perkins link at the bottom will describe this well. It is a good idea to scribe a line on the mounting flange of the pump and the timing gear cover to allow you to line the housing back to the same location it is in.
